Caring for Your Clay Jewelry
Collapsible content
Is polymer clay jewelry fragile?
Polymer clay is surprisingly durable when cured properly! However, it's still best to treat your pieces with care to prevent chips or cracks. Avoid bending or dropping them.
Can polymer clay jewelry get wet?
While a little water won't hurt it, it's best to avoid submerging your polymer clay jewelry. Remove before swimming, showering, or washing dishes to preserve any finishes, glue, or metal components.
How should I clean my polymer clay jewelry?
Gently wipe it with a soft, damp cloth. Avoid harsh chemicals, alcohol, or acetone, which can damage the surface or remove finishes.
Will the color fade over time?
Polymer clay holds its color well, but prolonged sun exposure can cause some fading. Store your pieces in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight when not in use.
Can I store all my jewelry together?
To avoid scratching or tangling, store polymer clay pieces separately in soft pouches or a lined jewelry box.
What is tarnish-free jewelry, exactly?
Tarnish-free jewelry is usually made from high-quality metals like stainless steel, gold-filled, titanium, or has a thick, protective coating that resists tarnishing. It’s designed to keep its shine much longer than traditional plated jewelry.
Can I wear tarnish-free jewelry in water?
Yes, BUT it’s still best to remove them before prolonged water exposure (swimming, showers, saunas) to extend their life.
How should I clean tarnish-free jewelry?
Wipe with a soft, dry cloth after wearing to remove oils and sweat. For a deeper clean, use warm water and mild soap—then dry thoroughly.
Will it eventually tarnish?
“Tarnish-free” means it's highly resistant, but not 100% immune. Over time, natural wear and environmental factors may cause some dulling. Proper care will keep your jewelry looking great for years.
How do I store it properly?
Store preferably in individual pouches or a jewelry box with anti-tarnish strips. Avoid humidity and keep it away from perfumes, lotions, and other chemicals.
